CZECH REPUBLIC - PREMIER TROPHY MOUFLON HUNT

The CZ Mouflon Sheep hunting season spans from October 1st to the end of March. The rut occurs in November. Early and late in the season tend to be the most popular time, but any time during the open season is possible and offers quality hunting.

-Second Trophy Mouflon Sheep: Flat rates and no size restrictions may, at times, be possible if permits are available.
-Sika Deer: Can be added with a relocation and 1-3 additional hunting days in Oct, for a flat rate with no size restrictions.
-Red Stag: Can be added with a relocation to Slovakia and 1-3 additional hunting days, best during late season (Dec. - Jan.), on a sliding scale trophy fee basis, priced according to size.
-Wild Boar: Can be added with a relocation to Slovakia and 1-3 additional hunting days, best during late season (Dec. - Feb.), on a sliding scale trophy fee basis, priced according to size/tusk length.
-Roe Deer: The Season is closed.

These hunts come standard at 5 days. Hunters usually settle into the lodge the night prior. Greet the guide each morning at the lodge and head to the hunting area before sunrise. Search for trophy Mouflon primarily by means of spot and stalk hunting in areas where they are seasonally known to frequent. Some Mouflon hunts are conducted from high seats or blinds in strategic areas, depending on the stage of the season or conditions. Physically, the terrain is not overly difficult to traverse. Mouflon tend to cling and bed near steep treed ravines for security, so some sloped terrain while stalking or recovering rams can be expected. They are often in large flocks, so approaching slowly and stealthily to avoid detection from the many sentinel eyes is the main challenge. Generally speaking, this hunt can accommodate hunters of various fitness levels as needed.

We generally encourage clients not to bring personal firearms from home for these trophy Mouflon hunts, especially if wishing to do any tourism while in Europe before or after the hunt. Our outfitter in the Czech Republic has proven, quality rifles, always available for clients to use for the duration of the hunt. Rifles are usually bolt or slide action, often Blaser R8’s with high-end Swarovski optics and suppressors. Popular calibers are .308, 30-06 or .300-Win Mag. Nearly all international clients borrow rifles rather than bring their own.

Archery hunting is not legal in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.

Rural northern and eastern Czech Republic is largely a fertile, agricultural region with rolling hills, plateaus, and steep, timbered ravines, carved by various slow-moving rivers. Cereal crops, vegetables, canola, corn, and pasturelands are prevalent. This region is interspersed with woodlots, orchards, vineyards, pine plantations, and larger tracts of mixed forests largely made up of Beech, Oak, Poplar, and Pine. Many of the best Mouflon areas are plateaus surrounded by steep brushy ravines where the Mouflon seek safe bedding areas and escape routes. Overall, a strikingly beautiful and iconic setting for these central European trophy Mouflon hunts.

Early season weather (Oct. - Nov.) is generally warm and pleasant, and the vegetation changes from green to mostly fallen, with classic fall weather colors. Snow or below-freezing temperatures overnight are not expected. Late season (Dec. - Mar.) will see more typical winter weather as the season progresses. Anytime starting in January, snow can be expected, and makes for ideal hunting conditions. Temperatures hovering around the freezing mark during the day, and slightly below freezing overnight and in the mornings is typical.

The Czech Republic offers that classic central European charm. Rich history and many preserved heritage venues offer various great options for hunters. Old manor homes, renovated heritage hotels in small villages, or rural cottages are all possible options, depending on hunter requests or proximity to specific hunting areas. Most venues will have their own unique story or post-war restorations. Expect Wi-Fi, private bedrooms and bathrooms, dining and common areas, an adjoining restaurant, and, in some cases, a full bar!

Meals during these guided trophy Mouflon hunts are either catered or served in an adjoining restaurant, already included in every package. Enjoy hearty meals daily featuring an array of local Czech and Slovak favorites. Breakfasts are usually very light and quick, with an array of local dried sausages, cheeses, breads and fruit, served as brunch throughout the day, often in the field. Dinners are big! Soups are typical starters, followed by lots of sausages, various local potato dumplings, sauerkraut, pizzas, paprikash stews and pasta.

Destination City: Hunters can be greeted at one of several destination cities across central Europe. Prague, CZ would be the best and closest to the hunting areas. Round-trip airport shuttles are included in the package price. For a small fee of $150/pp, Vienna, Austria or Bratislava, Slovakia can also serve as alternate destination cities, should airline options be better.

Travel Suggestions: All destination cities are easily reached from most major hub airports, especially by any Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines flights, with typical European connections occurring in either Munich or Frankfurt, Germany.

After a successful trophy Mouflon hunt in the Czech Republic, trophies are delivered to a processor who will carefully cape and freeze it. The outfitter then delivers the trophies (at times with clients) with one of two taxidermists who can either do the complete work, or prep, permit, and crate trophies for shipping and coordinate with European shipping agents. General turnaround time to delivery is approximately 6 months.
