POLAND: RED STAG HUNT

The roar spans the month of September, with mid-to-late Sept being the traditional peak dates, depending on region. While not prime, the season for Red Stag hunting in Poland is technically open through December.

Additional Red Stag: Can often be taken as targets of opportunity, should permits still be available.
- Roe Deer: Almost always available during Sept roar Red Stag hunts.
- Wild Boar: Can be taken as targets of opportunity.
- Fallow Deer: Seasons only open Oct 1st after the Red Stag roar.
- European Mouflon: Seasons only open Oct 1st after the Red Stag roar.

These hunts come standard at 5 days (x10 outings) with a total of x5 morning and x5 evening outings. Greet your guide each morning & afternoon at the lodge and hunt for Red Stag often using a combination of spot & stalk and calling tactics during the roar. It’s a very exciting time to be in these forests! Some hunts are conducted from high seats or blinds in strategic areas, depending on the scenario and circumstance. Physically the terrain is not difficult to traverse. It is seen as a gentlemen’s hunt.

We generally encourage clients not to bring personal firearms from home to hunt Red Stag in Poland, especially if wishing to do any tourism while in Europe before or after the hunt. Each guide in Poland has a proven-quality rifle available for clients to borrow—plus ammunition at $250. Rifles are usually bolt or slide action, with popular calibers being 6.5mm, .308, 30-06 or 8mm. Nearly all international clients rent rifles rather than bring them.

Archery hunting is not legal in Poland.

Rural Poland offers a very huntable and game-rich terrain. The landscape is generally flat, but complete with wooded hills and highly fertile rolling farm country. Cereal crops, vegetables, canola, corn, and pasturelands are prevalent. This region is dotted with woodlots, fruit orchards, pine plantations, and larger tracts of mixed forests largely made up of Birch, Oak, Poplar, and species of Pine. Many of the best Red Stag hunting areas are in regions with large impenetrable wetlands, providing cover and sanctuary.

During the Red Stag roar (September) the weather is generally warm and pleasant with the vegetation just beginning to change colors. Frost or dew can develop overnight, but temperatures rarely dip below freezing during the early Red Stag hunting season in Poland. Post roar hunts between October and the end of December however will see classic temperate fall conditions, tapering off into winter. The likelihood of snow or below freezing temperatures in December is always possible.

Poland offers rich culture and historic charm. A variety of lodging options can be arranged for hunters. Palaces, old luxurious manor homes, renovated heritage hotels in small villages, or rural cottages are all options. Nearly every venue will have its own unique story or post-war restorations. You can expect private rooms, complete bathrooms, moats, gardens, courtyards, dining halls, and gracious common areas.

While Red Stag hunting in Poland, hunters enjoy 3 hearty meals each day, sourced locally and delicious. Enjoy a quick breakfast in the morning, and a full lunch once returning to the lodge midday. Soups, cold cuts, cutlets, sandwiches along with cheese, vegetable or fruit platters would be typical. After the evening hunt, enjoy a big dinner featuring locally-made soups, sausages, sauerkrauts, salads, assorted cold cuts, cheeses, and smoked fish. And all this is followed by delicious desserts. In classic eastern European fashion, no one goes hungry!

Destination City: Hunters are usually greeted at one of several destination cities across Poland depending on the location of their hunt. Most often Poznan, Wroclaw, or occasionally Warsaw.

Travel Suggestions: All destination cities are easily reached especially by any Lufthansa Airlines flight, with best connections typically occurring in either Munich or Frankfurt, Germany.

After successfully hunting Red Stag in Poland, trophies are left in the care of the outfitter, especially for international clients. The outfitter delivers all the trophies at the end of each season to his select taxidermy partners. They can either be hired to do the final work or prepare, crate and permit the trophies for shipping (in coordination with various well-reputed European shipping agents). General turnaround time for delivery is approximately 9 months.
